Discover Life In America
Discover Life in America is a non-profit organization based in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, aiming to explore and share information about the diverse organisms residing in the Smokies. Our mission is to connect communities and scientists in the discovery, understanding, and conservation of the natural world. We envision biodiversity being conserved through an engaged community.
Our values emphasize the crucial role of human diversity in protecting biodiversity. We believe that diverse perspectives, experiences, and backgrounds bring strength, resilience, and sustainability to our mission. Our commitment to inclusivity, embracing uniqueness, and uniting diverse minds and cultures is essential for the conservation of Earth’s intricate web of life.
Our flagship project, the All Taxa Biodiversity Inventory (ATBI), is a pioneering effort in collaboration with the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. This concentrated endeavor aims to identify and catalog every species in the Park, setting a model for biodiversity censuses.
In addition to the ATBI, we collaborate with partners to manage community science projects and provide biodiversity education programming in the region. Check our upcoming events for exciting activities and opportunities to join the discovery.
